Jacob Baron is a jazz and classical pianist and composer hailing from Cambridge, MA. He began playing music at an early age, studying jazz beginning in high school. He graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of music, majoring in Jazz Piano and Physics. He has toured internationally with the Terry Hsieh Collective, and recently released an album with this group, Multiplicity.
Baron received the 2011 CIGSIE grant to compose a piece combining elements of physics with music called “Quantum Melodics,” which was performed at the Illumination ceremony during commencement at Oberlin in 2011. In 2009, Baron received 2nd place in the Oberlin Jazz Composition Contest for his composition “Green Goats.” He is currently pursuing a doctorate in physics at Harvard University. He performs regularly with several groups in the Boston area including The Ward Eights.
